DraftKings Late MLB picks for June 16

The late tournament tonight has 10 games, which still gives us a lot of options to choose from. Who are the best ones? Let’s check out the past stats.

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Junior Guerra has never faced the Dodgers. The 31 year old rookie is 3-1 with a 3.31 ERA in eight starts, and could be worth using against the struggling Dodger offense.

Erik Johnson has never faced the Nationals, and though he does have upside, he does not against this lineup. Leave his 7.71 ERA alone!

Tyler Wilson has pitched pretty well against Boston in a limited sample, but he has not given up less than three runs in a game since May 11th. Look elsewhere.

Best Bets:

Tanner Roark ($10,300): Roark draws a Padres team that is hitting just 4-30(.133) against him with three runs and nine strikeouts. The game is also in Petco Park. His strikeout upside is not that of Verlander or Sabathia, but those are dominant numbers against a team that is really struggling offensively.

CC Sabathia ($9,800): Sabathia is pitching much better lately, only giving up three runs in his last six starts. Now he gets the Twins, who generally hit lefties hard, but have struggled against Sabathia in his career. The Twins are only hitting .222 against Sabathia in 126 at bats, but they do have six homers and 17 RBI to go with 34 strikeouts. This looks like a good night for CC.

Honorable Mention:

J.A. Happ ($7,300): You know how I feel about small sample sizes, but Happ has dominated the current Phillies. In 22 at bats, they have just three hits, all singles, and six strikeouts. This is a high powered offense behind Happ. A win is very likely, and with these past stats, Happ could give you really good numbers at a reasonable price.

Danny Duffy ($7,000): Duffy has turned in three straight quality starts, and is now facing a Detroit team that has only hit .237 off of him in 131 at bats, but he has given up 15 runs. The 30 strikeouts helps, but playing a hot hand with good stats could be a great idea.

Dark Horse:

Bartolo Colon ($6,700): The 43 year old Colon is 5-3 with a 3.08 ERA on the season. The ageless wonder is facing a Pirates team that is hitting .242 against him in 91 at bats, but they only have one homer and six RBI to go with 18 strikeouts. I trust him a lot more than Juan Nicasio. A regression seems imminent, but the past stats say it likely wont happen here.

Eduardo Rodriguez ($6,500): Rodriguez has allowed the Orioles to hit a decent .257 off of him with a homer and eight driven in. So why is he on here? He has struck out 20 in 70 at bats, and he is facing a struggling pitcher opposite him. Rodriguez took the AL East by storm last year. If he can get back on track, it will likely start here.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

There is a Royals stack to be had against Justin Verlander. Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas combined for three homers and nine RBI against him, but they are a combined 27-139(.194) against him. You can do better. Lorenzo Cain ($2,700) is 7-27(.259) with a double, a homer, and two RBI. Eric Hosmer ($3,700) is 19-69(.275) with four walks, five doubles, a triple, a homer, and three RBI against Verlander. Salvador Perez will likely be worth the $3,400. Perez is 21-44(.477) with seven doubles, two homers, and a whopping 13 RBI against Verlander.

Danny Duffy has been brilliant lately, but Miguel Cabrera ($4,900) is 6-21(.286) with eight walks, three doubles, and four RBI off of Duffy. Victor Martinez ($4,400) is 7-23(.304) with two walks, a double, and three RBI. Nick Castellanos ($4,800) is 5-16(.313) with a triple and a RBI.

Kyle Gibson got beat up by the Red Sox in his first start off of the disabled list. It wont get any better against the Yankees. Brian McCann ($3,800) is 2-4 with a walk, a homer and five RBI. That’s right, he has more RBI than at bats against Gibson. Brett Gardner ($4,600) is 3-6 with a double, a triple, and two walks. Jacoby Ellsbury ($4,600) is 3-8 with two RBI. Chase Headley ($3,000) is 2-5 with a homer and three driven in against Gibson.

Kurt Suzuki has abused CC Sabathia in his career. Suzuki is 9-36 with five walks, two doubles, four homers, and ten RBI against the veteran lefty.

Aaron Hill ($2,500) is 10-35(.286) with two walks, two doubles, a triple, a homer, and six RBI against Scott Kazmir. Chris Carter ($3,700) is 5-17(.294) with five walks, two doubles, and three RBI against Kazmir.

Josh Donaldson ($5,000) is perfect against Aaron Nola. He has a walk, a single, and a solo homer off of him.
