First Baseman

High-Salary Option: Edwin Encarnacion-Toronto Blue Jays (4,200): Encarnacion has five home runs in his last five games and is 9-23 (.391) with three doubles and 11 RBI as well over the past week.  He has enjoyed Citizens Bank Park and has four homers there in the last three and a half seasons. Look for more fireworks from him tonight against Andrew Nola. ∗∗∗

Mid-range Option: Chris Carter-Milwaukee Brewers (3,400): A solid mid-range option at 1B for tonight is Chris Carter who takes on Scott Kazmir and the Dodgers tonight in LA.  Carter is not trending especially well against southpaws this year, but he is 5-17 (.294) against Kazmir in the past with a pair of doubles, five walks, and three RBI.

Carter’s power potential with a low average always makes him a high-risk play, but I think he’s worth a look at this price tonight.

High-Value Option: Kendrys Morales-Kansas City Royals (2,600): Morales is a really nice play at this price just over 2,500.  He has a great history against Tigers starter Justin Verlander and comes in tonight 12-34 (.353) with a pair of homers and four doubles for a nice round 1.000 OPS.  Morales has had a so-so start to the month going 11-44 (.250) but its in improvement on his slow start and has been enough to raise his average to .205.

He is pretty affordable due to his early season struggles, but I like him a lot in tonight’s matchup in KC. ∗∗∗

High-Value Option: James Loney-New York Mets (2,100): If you’re trying to go even cheaper, check out Loney who has hit safely in each of his last four starts for the Mets and in six of his last seven.  He’s just 2-13 (.154) against tonight’s starter Juan Nicosio in his career, but he’s still the cheap option with the most potential tonight.
