Richard Jefferson is playing in his third NBA Finals and although he is on the brink of elimination for the third time heading into Game 6 of the 2016 NBA Finals, Jefferson knows just how hard it is to get to the NBA Finals.

He is also smart enough to know that it takes a great leader to get them where they are at and he has a lot of admiration toward LeBron James and the things that he has done for the Cavaliers on the basketball court.

With Jefferson ready to go for Game 6, he decided to write a letter to Cavaliers fans before the game titled “Who We Are” via The Players’ Tribune, and he showed plenty of emotion in his writing.

"Right now I’m at my computer. I’m wired. It’s the night before the biggest game of my career and probably the biggest game in Cavs history. I’m finding it hard to relax and wind down. All I can think about is the sound of the Q on Thursday night. The last home game of the season.…I don’t care if you’re a LeBron “fan,” or not, I have seen it: Bron has something I’ve never seen. The way he says “follow me and I’ll take you there” with actions, more than words, is like no one else I’ve ever played with. He’s the kind of leader who makes you want to carry the weight too. I feel indebted to him. We all do.Right now I’m at my computer. I’m wired. It’s the night before the biggest game of my career and probably the biggest game in Cavs history. Jefferson has become a key reserve for the Cavaliers in their playoff run, which has shocked many to see him play such a huge role at this stage of his career.

Still, the self-awareness that Jefferson exudes in his piece really shows the individual that he is, from trusting in his team’s captain all the way to carrying a laminated photo of Kevin Love with him.

The Cavaliers have done an excellent job of taking a series that seemed beyond salvageable and turning it into one that has them believing they can win an NBA Championship. Without voices like that of Jefferson and in the locker room, it’s hard to say what type of mentality they would have right now.
