The New York Knicks have expressed interest in trading for Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose. Here are five reasons it’s an awful idea for the Knicks.

The New York Knicks have to upgrade their play at point guard to get out of irrelevancy in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. They already have a perennial All-Star at small forward in Carmelo Anthony and a potential superstar at the stretch five in Kristaps Porzingis. However, the point guard play for the Knicks in 2015-16 might have been some of the worst on display in the NBA last season.

On Friday, ESPN’s Ian Begley reported that the Knicks are discussing internally the possibility of making a trade for Chicago Bulls starting point guard Derrick Rose to hopefully solve their point guard woes. For a brief period, Rose was once the most dynamic playmaker in the league, winning NBA MVP in 2011. Now he’s been arguably the most injury-riddled player in the Eastern Conference in the last five years.

Chicago might be on the precipice of a lengthy rebuilding project after failing to reach the 2016 Eastern Conference Playoffs under new head coach Fred Hoiberg. Rose and fellow back court star Jimmy Butler have been a few of the Bulls’ players who might be on the trading block this offseason.

While acquiring Rose could potentially be an upgrade for the Knicks in their atrocious backcourt, here are five reasons that the Knicks organization should avoid trading for Rose at all costs.
