5 reasons New York Knicks should trade for Derrick Rose
By Brad Weiss
The New York Knicks have been weak at the point guard position for some time, and will be looking to upgrade their backcourt this offseason. Derrick Rose could be the answer.
The New York Knicks have won a combined 49 games the last two seasons, while finishing in the bottom of a very weak Eastern Conference. President Phil Jackson hired a new head coach this offseason, signing former Phoenix Suns head man Jeff Hornacek. With a new coach in place, the Knicks now need to solidify their backcourt, and could be looking at a former MVP to do just that.
Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose was once a crown jewel in the NBA, winning an NBA MVP at only 22 years old. A scoring point guard with freakish athleticism, Rose was cut down by two major knee surgeries, and has not played in more than 66 games since his MVP season of 2010-11.
The Knicks have a solid frontcourt in place, as Kristaps Porzingis, Carmelo Anthony, and Robin Lopez give them one of the more solid big men in the league. Their Achilles heel has been the guard positions, specifically at the point.
Guys like Jose Calderon, Jerian Grant, and Tony Wroten just will not cut it, and according to ESPN’s Ian Begley, the Knicks have had internal discussions about bringing in a guy like Rose to upgrade the position.
Signing Rose makes sense for the Knicks, and here are five reasons why.
