4. No long-term risk.

It is not often that signing a player with such a huge contract is not a huge risk, but in the case of Derrick Rose, it really is not. Signing Rose for the 2016-17 season is basically a one-year trial, as his contract expires at the end of the season. It could be worth it for the Knicks to bring on the former All-Star for one year in hopes that he still has some magic left.

The amount of money that the Knicks will have to pay him is astronomical considering he has not played a full season since his MVP season in 2011. He has had to battle back from some gruesome injuries to his knee, but if he remains healthy, he could be worth the price tag for the one year.

Still only 27 years old, Rose showed flashes of his old self last season, playing in the most games he has played in since the 2010-11 season. Rose appeared in 66 games last season, finishing third on the Bulls with a 16.4 points per game average.

If he can stay in the lineup, the Knicks would have a solid point guard for the first time in a long time. If he is a bust, they can get rid of his contract at the end of the season. Seems like a small risk if they have the money to spend.
