Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.
As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.
High Salary
Nelson Cruz, Mariners (5,500): Cruz extended his hitting streak to seven games on Thursday, and he should be able to extend it to eight on Friday. The Seattle slugger has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games and has already homered six times in June. He’s hitting .300 against left-handers this season, so his matchup with Boston Red Sox southpaw and former teammate Roenis Elias is an appealing one.
Michael Saunders, Blue Jays (5,000): Saunders has hit safely in seven of his last eight starts, including a home run on Thursday. Saunders is hitting over .300 against both left-handers and right-handers, and in Toronto’s potent lineup, he’s almost always a solid play. As the Blue Jays continue to heat up (7-3 in last 10 games), Saunders’ value continues to increase. He’s a solid play Friday against Baltimore Orioles righty Mike Wright (3-3, 5.31 ERA).
High Value
Marcell Ozuna, Marlins (3,600): Ozuna has been relatively quiet over his last five games, collecting just three hits, although one of them was his 12th home run of the season. Ozuna and the Marlins will host the Colorado Rockies this weekend, so runs should be plentiful. Ozuna has never faced Friday starter Jon Gray (4-2, 4.70 ERA), but he’s hitting nearly .300 against right-handers. He’s a solid value option.
Peter O’Brien, Diamondbacks (3,500): O’Brien has just one hit in 15 at-bats since being called up by Arizona last week — a home run off of Miami lefty Adam Conley. O’Brien was leading the minor leagues in home runs when the Diamondbacks recalled him, so we know he has considerable power. He’ll face Philadelphia Phillies lefty Adam Morgan (1-5, 6.33 ERA) on Friday, so another long ball is a real possibility.
