Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.

As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.

High Salary

Jose Altuve, Astros (5,600): Altuve has hit safely in seven straight games and 19 of his last 20 games overall. His .346 average trails only Boston shortstop Xander Bogaerts (.352) in the American League. Altuve also ranks third in the majors in stolen bases (18), further boosting his fantasy value. He’s hitting .379 against lefties this season, so he should have little trouble against Cincinnati Reds southpaw John Lamb (1-4, 5.14 ERA).

Ian Kinsler, Tigers (5,400): Make it seven straight and 10 of his 11 games with a hit for Kinsler, who continues to have a brilliant season in Detroit. Kinsler ranks among the top 15 in the AL in average (.312; eighth), home runs (14; 14th) and RBIs (45; seventh). He’ll remain a key cog as Detroit remains in the thick of the AL Central race. His numbers against Kansas City Royals starter Yordano Ventura (6-for-16) are strong.

High Value

Chase Utley, Dodgers (3,600): Utley doesn’t exactly resemble his six-time All-Star form from Philadelphia, but at 37 years old, he can still get it done. He has six hits in his last five games and has had particular success against right-handers this season — he’s hitting .285 against them, compared to just .167 against left-handers. Los Angeles faces Milwaukee Brewers righty Zach Davies (5-3, 3.88 ERA) on Friday.

Ryan Goins, Blue Jays (3,300): Goins is certainly one of the top GPP punt plays on the Friday slate. His overall numbers this season (.182, three home runs, 12 RBIs) aren’t great, but his head-to-head numbers with Baltimore Orioles right-hander Mike Wright are superb. Goins is 4-for-6 with a double, triple and two RBIs against Wright. He’s worth a roll of the dice for this price.
