High Salary
Josh Donaldson, Blue Jays (5,600): Donaldson is showing why he took home the American League Most Valuable Player Award last season. He enters play Friday on a nine-game hitting streak, and has gone 8-for-11 over his last three games. Donaldson has also scored eight runs over the last three games, a nice byproduct of the Blue Jays’ 31 runs over that stretch. Donaldson is very expensive, but he’s been worth it.
Kris Bryant, Cubs (4,900): Bryant is hitting just .245 in the month of June, but he does have four home runs in 14 games. Bryant is always a threat, particularly in Chicago’s potent lineup. But the matchup with Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Francisco Liriano (4-6, 4.92 ERA) bumps his value up. Bryant is 4-for-9 with two doubles and a home run against Liriano.
High Value
Martin Prado, Marlins (3,400): Prado enters play Friday on a nine-game hitting streak. He’s hitting .367 in the month of June, which has helped raise his season average to .331. Prado has never faced Colorado Rockies right-hander Jon Gray (4-2, 4.70 ERA), but he’s hitting a robust .314 against righties. Prado offers nice value.
Jose Ramirez, Indians (3,400): Ramirez has been quiet in the month of June, but Friday’s matchup with Chicago White Sox southpaw Jose Quintana (5-7, 2.66 ERA) presents an opportunity to get the ship righted. Quintana is capable of shutting Cleveland down, so Ramirez is best viewed as a GPP play. But the young third baseman is 5-for-12 with a pair of doubles against Quintana in his career.
