The Tampa Bay Rays will be honoring the Orlando mass shooting victims during Friday’s game, including wearing hats of their former minor league team.
Since the tragic shooting at the Pulse night club in Orlando in the early hours of Sunday morning, the country and the world has come together to show its support for a city that is dealing with the death of 49 people who were just enjoying their night.
In the state of Florida, everywhere from Miami to Jacksonville has come together for their Sunshine State brothers. Maybe no area has done more than those in the Tampa Bay area, where some of the victims were from.
Before, during and after Friday’s game, the Tampa Bay Rays plan to honor those victims while at home against San Francisco (during a game that was schedule to be Pride Night even before the tragic events just 100 miles away). The team is wearing shirts that say “We are Orlando” and are also honoring the city with a blast from their past:
Orlando was home to the Rays’ Double-A affiliate for seven seasons before the franchise moved that organization to Montgomery, Alabama in 2004.
The Rays will be donating all the proceeds from tickets, parking and other items to a fund set up for victims and their families. Fans will also be able to donate blood and money outside of Tropicana Field during both Friday and Saturday’s game.
