Von Miller upset with fan comments about contract negotiations
Days after declining a contract that would have made Von Miller one of the highest paid players in the NFL, the star linebacker made some comments.
The 2016 NFL offseason has been an interesting one for the Denver Broncos. They lost quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler to retirement and free agency, respectively. Contracts of their current players have been an issue too, most notably linebacker Von Miller.
Miller was reportedly offered a six-year, $114 million contract by the Broncos. However, the star defensive player declined the deal. He then said there is no chance of him playing on the franchise tag.
Now, $114 million is a lot of money. Turning that down is not typical, and fans have taken aim at Miller for declining this and his other comments. So in an interview with Sports Illustrated, Miller made comments about the backlash. He most notably said, “I’m not even going to lie. It’s a business but at the end of the day, I got feelings, too. I know some fans don’t know that some of the reports aren’t even true.”
Miller went on to talk about the names people called him on Instagram and how they are telling him to take the deal.
It’s seemingly hard for the fans to be sympathetic for Miller, who wants more than $114 million. While calling him names isn’t appropriate, it does seem kind of crazy that he did turn down that amount of money. The Texas A&M alumnus willing to sit out the 2016 season instead of taking the cash may seem a bit crazier.
When or if the Broncos and Von Miller come to an agreement, it will be interesting to see how much money he receives. Will he still be complaining about what fans are saying then?
