DraftKings Late MLB Picks For June 18

There are only three afternoon games on getaway day, which makes this the smaller tournament of the day. There are a few good options. Let’s find out what the past stats say!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Colin Rea has never faced the Nationals. His 5.37 ERA should keep you from using him against that offense.

Best Bets:

Max Scherzer ($13,900):Ā Okay, simply put, you have to use Scherzer tonight. The Padres are hitting a pathetic .129 against him in 111 at bats with one homer, only three runs, and 25 strikeouts. The strikeout numbers are a little short of elite, but Scherzer has racked up 118 already this year. He will pick them up tonight. This is one of those night where he could flirt with 50 DraftKings points.

Steven Matz ($10,900):Ā The Braves are a respectable 14-56(.250) off of Matz, but they only have one homer, two extra base hits, and three RBI to go with the 14 strikeouts. The strikeout potential far outweighs the few runs Matz may give up.

Honorable Mention:

Jon Lester ($12,900):Ā The Pirates have hit .235 off of Lester in 170 at bats, but they have four homers and 16 RBI. The 47 strikeouts is nice, but it’s still lower than Matz’s rate against the Braves. Getting adequate return on the money seems unlikely for Lester tonight.

Dark Horse:

Chase Anderson ($8,300):Ā Anderson has held the Dodgers to a .219 average in 73 at bats and struck out an impressive 25 batters. The bad news? He has given up six homers and 11 RBI already. However, this appears to be a night that you need to spend on pitching. All of the lower tier options have been hit hard by tonight’s opponents, which is an ominous sign. Anderson is the safest of the middle and lower tier.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about ā€œstackingā€ pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Edinson Volquez has been beaten up a little by the Tigers. They are hitting a robust .295 off of him in 146 at bats, but have only taken him deep once (by Anthony Gose, who is currently at AAA). That doesn’t mean that there aren’t still players worth stacking against him. Miguel Cabrera ($4,400) is 5-11(.455) with three walks, a double, and two RBI. Nick Castellanos ($4,000) is 4-11(.364) with three walks, a double, and four RBI. Ian Kinsler ($5,500) is 8-20 with a walk, two doubles, and four RBI. Justin Upton ($4,100) is 8-20 with a walk, four doubles and three RBI.

You need to stack against Jon Niese. Kris Bryant ($5,000) is a great play if he is in the lineup. He is 4-8 with a walk and two RBI against Niese. Dexter Fowler ($4,800) is 6-21(.286) with two walks and a solo home run. Jason Heyward ($4,100) is 9-28(.321) with two walks, two doubles, two homers, and eight RBI against the fellow lefty. David Ross ($2,800) is 6-22(.273) with two walks, a double, a triple, a homer, and eight RBI against Niese. Matt Szczur ($3,300) is 3-6 with two doubles and two RBI. It could be a great night to play Cubs at Wrigley.

The Dodgers have smacked six homers in just 73 at bats against Chase Anderson. Yasmani Grandal ($3,000) is 3-10 against Anderson. All three hits are homers and he has driven in six. Adrian Gonzalez ($3,100) is 4-11(.364) with five walks, a homer, and two RBI. Chase Utley ($3,800) is 2-5 with a double and a solo homer off of Anderson.

Lorenzo Cain ($4,000) is 3-10 with a walk, a double, a homer, and five RBI against Matt Boyd already. Kendrys Morales ($2,900) is 6-9 with a double, a triple, a homer, and five RBI off Boyd.

Wil Myers ($3,900) is 2-3 with a solo homer against Max Scherzer if you feel lucky. Whatever you do, don’t use Matt Kemp. He is 1-24(.042) lifetime against Scherzer.

Daniel Castro ($2,500) is 4-9 with a solo homer against Steven Matz.

Whomever the Brewers play at catcher, you can feel good about starting them against Mike Bolsinger. Both have homered off of him already.

Suprisingly enough, Matt Joyce ($2,500) is 4-11(.364) with a walk, two homers, and six RBI against Jon Lester. Play him if he plays!
