NFL MVP Cam Newton doesn’t think he’s peaked yet
By John Buhler
Cam Newton is coming off his best season as an NFL quarterback, but the Carolina Panthers signal caller doesn’t feel he’s peaked as a football player yet.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton just had his best season as a professional in 2015. The Panthers signal caller led Carolina to a 15-1 regular season, a trip to Super Bowl 50, and won NFL MVP.
Though it will be hard for Newton to top the best season of his career so far, he still feels he has plenty of room to grow. Newton told the Charlotte Observer, “I haven’t peaked. I haven’t climaxed as a player, and that’s what I need to get better at.”
Newton is a dynamic on-field leader for the Panthers. He was able to channel some of the magic he displayed in 2010 as the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback for the National Champion Auburn Tigers. Newton went No. 1 overall to Carolina in the 2011 NFL Draft.
While Newton has complete command of offensive coordinator Mike Shula’s offense entering year six with the Panthers, he can still improve greatly as a passer. Most of Carolina’s offense came via a great running game led by Newton, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Tolbert, and Fozzy Whitaker.
The Panthers do have one of the game’s best tight ends in Greg Olsen, but Carolina otherwise has a so-so receiving corps. Yes, it didn’t help that second-year wideout Kelvin Benjamin had to miss all the 2015 NFL season with an ACL tear, but Carolina lacked the elite passing game to make Newton beyond unbeatable.
Newton has improved his awareness in the pocket and has a dynamic safety valve in Olsen. If he can pass with greater precession down the field, the NFL may have an even tougher time dealing with one of the best players in the game in Newton.

The reigning MVP still has plenty of opportunities to improve at the quarterback position in 2016.
