John Daly proved why he’s one of the greatest characters in all of golf with his tweet regarding the Dustin Johnson, USGA controversy at the 2016 US Open
Without question, one of the most unique, hilarious, and identifiable voices in all of golf is that of John Daly. The big hitter from the tee has never been afraid of speaking his mind or doing as he pleases in addition to not being opposed to a cigarette or drink every now and again. So when the US Open became entrenched in controversy regarding Dustin Johnson possibly being assessed a penalty stroke for his ball “moving,” John Daly didn’t hesitate to troll (and market) accordingly.
Daly took to Twitter to say that, with all of the hullabaloo and controversy, he was assessing himself a “two cocktail penalty” while showing himself holding his own branded cocktails and of course puffing on a cigarette:
Never ever change, John Daly. You are truly the American hero that we will always want and need around.
In seriousness, how the USGA handled the whole Dustin Johnson situation at the US Open is enough to bring the soberest of men to needing a John Daly cocktail. After all, the USGA told him that the ball “moving” was fine and not his fault (if it even moved at all) only to then change their minds and then not have any definitive statement on the matter.
You know what, Daly has the right idea. We all need something to get through times like this on the links.
