Report: Manchester United pursuing Leonardo Bonucci
According to a report from the Daily Star, Jose Mourinho has set his sights on bringing Leonardo Bonucci to Manchester United.
The Italians were one of the first teams to qualify for the Round of 16 in France, defeating Belgium and Sweden in their opening two matches.
The Azzurri have relied on their experienced defense, keeping consecutive clean sheets to start Euro 2016. The likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli, and Leonardo Bonucci have led the way for Antonio Conte’s side, much like they have with Juventus for years.
However, according to a report from the Daily Star, Jose Mourinho is looking to break up the trio by bringing Bonucci to Old Trafford. The Italian international made headlines against Belgium, when he sent an astounding ball to Emanuele Giaccherini to set up the opening goal of the match. Not only is the 29-year-old one of the best defenders on the planet, but he also has a tremendous ability to pass the ball.
Bonucci has spent the last six seasons with Juventus, where he has helped the club win five consecutive Serie A titles, and back-to-back domestic doubles. He has also made 59 appearances for his country, and is one of the most respected defenders on the peninsula.
It will not be an easy task for Manchester United to land the veteran, as Juventus have no intentions of letting the stalwart go. Although, Mourinho looks determined to bolster the Red Devils defense and could convince the club to make a mammoth bid for the Italian.
