Star Trek, Alpha Dogs star Anton Yelchin dies in a tragic accident at the age of 27 and the Star Trek community is heartbroken.

Anton Yelchin, best known for his portrayal as Ensign Pavel Chekhov in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, has died in a freak accident at his Los Angeles home Sunday morning. Yelchin is the only child of Russian immigrant parents; his loss on Father’s Day is nothing less than a tragedy.

The newest installment of the franchise, Star Trek Beyond, is due to hit theaters in July, and his absence will no doubt cast a pall upon the opening of the film. Members of the cast and crew have been posting regularly on social media about how excited they are about the film, and several cast members will be on hand at San Diego Comic Con in July for the world premiere.
