DraftKings MLB picks for June 20

The early tournament today has 10 games, which still gives us a lot of options to choose from. Who are the best ones? Let’s check out the past stats.

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Paul Clemens will take the place of Justin Nicolino against the Rockies, but he has a 5.51 career ERA. I wouldn’t trust him against an offense like the Rockies, even in Miami.

Best Bets:

Clayton Kershaw ($14,200): How good has Kershaw been? He has given up just 19 runs all season. That’s right. 19 runs in 14 starts. That would be incredible even if he didn’t strike out as many batters. Oh, and he is holding the Nationals to a .217 average in 157 at bats with only three homers, five runs, and 48 strikeouts. I’m surprised he’s not more expensive. He would likely still be worth it.

Stephen Strasburg ($13,200): This ought to be a great pitching matchup as Strasburg has held the Dodgers to a .211 average in 76 at bats with no homers, five runs, and an impressive 25 strikeouts. His strikeout potential actually may be a little higher than Kershaw’s, but can he actually beat him? Better question: if he doesn’t, is Kershaw still $1,000 better? I guess that depends on where you spend that $1,000.

Honorable Mention:

John Lackey ($11,800): The Cardinals are hitting a decent .246 against Lackey, but they only have one home run and ten runs. They have also struck out 32 times in 122 at bats. That kind of ratio with the potent Cubs offense behind him leaves him as a suitable second tier option.

Steven Wright ($11,200): Wright has a great matchup against Miguel Gonzalez, and the White Sox have only hit .231 against him in 39 at bats while striking out 14 times. The potential is here for really good numbers from Wright.

Josh Tomlin ($9,100): The Rays are a dismal 3-28(.107) off of Josh Tomlin with five strikeouts. If you are willing to trust a small sample size, Tomlin could pay off big.

Dark Horses:

Doug Fister ($7,800): Fister has pitched well (7-3, 3.26 ERA) this year, and his career numbers against the Angels are good. The Halos are only hitting .219 against Fister in 114 at bats with two homers, eight runs, and 27 strikeouts. He could give you second tier numbers at a much lower price tonight.

Jaime Garcia ($5,700): The current Cubs are hitting just .174 against Garcia in 46 at bats with just a solo homer and 17 strikeouts. Those are great numbers. Can you really trust him against the Cubs considering the rough patch he is in? If you do, he could come up very big for you tonight.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Surprisingly enough, The Pirates are hitting .339 against Madison Bumgarner. David Freese ($2,900) is 4-8 with a solo homer, and should be worth playing if he starts. Josh Harrison ($2,600) is 4-7 with a walk and a solo homer. Jordy Mercer ($2,600) is 3-7 against MadBum, but has no counting stats.

Jose Altuve ($5,200) is 3-7 with two doubles against Jhoulys Chacin. Carlos Gomez ($3,900) is only 2-8, but he has a homer and three RBI. Colby Rasmus ($3,900) is 2-4 with a solo homer against Chacin.

The Indians haven’t hit for a good average against Drew Smyly, but a couple of players have hit him well. Yan Gomes ($2,600) is 4-11 with a walk, a double, and two solo homers against Smyly. Rajai Davis ($4,400) is 2-7 with a double, a homer, and two RBI off Smyly.

Jayson Werth ($3,100) is one of the few and the proud that has a good history against Kershaw. Werth is 9-29(.310) with four walks and two solo homers off of Kershaw.

Matt Adams ($3,200) has only faced John Lackey once. He hit a two run homer off of him. Jhonny Peralta ($3,500) is 11-31(.355) with a double and four RBI against Lackey.

Jose Abreu ($4,000) is 2-5 with a walk, a triple, a homer, and three RBI off of Steven Wright.

Corey Dickerson ($4,000) is the only Ray to do damage to Josh Tomlin. He hit a two run homer off of him in his two at bats.

Miguel Montero ($3,500) has bucked the lefty on lefty trend by going 3-4 with a solo homer off of Jaime Garcia. The question is, will he still get the start over David Ross in the straight platoon?

Mike Trout ($4,900) is 5-13(.385) against Doug Fister with a double and a RBI. Kole Calhoun ($3,900) is perfect with two walks and a solo homer against Fister.

Mark Trumbo ($4,500) has Derek Holland‘s number. Trumbo is 14-45(.311) with three walks, three doubles, five homers, and 12 RBI against the veteran lefty.

Chris Iannetta ($3,400) is 7-15(.467) with three walks and two solo homers against Mike Pelfrey. Seth Smith ($3,900) is 7-17(.412) with four walks, two doubles, a triple, and a solo homer off of Pelfrey.

Hanley Ramirez ($4,200) is 3-7 with a walk, two homers, and four RBI against the struggling Miguel Gonzalez.

Prince Fielder ($3,400) is 4-8 with a solo homer against Kevin Gausman. Do you trust that or his season-long slump?
