The Mets may not be so against bringing back Jose Reyes after all.

Jose Reyes has had a tumultuous past 6-8 months. In the 2016 offseason, he was arrested on domestic violence feefaccusations, and while the charges were dropped, MLB decided to suspend Reyes for 51 games. Once this and his time on the reserve list ended, the Colorado Rockies decided to designate the former NL batting champion for assignment.

Since being let go, one destination that has been speculated for Reyes is his original team, the New York Mets. It was perceived that they didn’t have interest in bringing him back. However, Adam Rubin of ESPN is reporting that the Mets are considering a reunion with their former shortstop.

The fit for Reyes would be interesting because Asdrubal Cabrera has shortstop and Neil Walker plays second base for the Mets. Given that David Wright is out for the season, it’s possible Cabrera or Walker gets moved to third base, opening a spot for Reyes.

Since Wright went down, the Mets have been using Wilmer Flores at third base. They have given him an extended look and if they want to continue this, they might pass on Reyes.

Where Jose Reyes ends up remains to be seen. With declining skills at the plate and in the field, someone will be taking a risk on the former All-Star. Can he regain his form with a new team in 2016?
