NBA Rumors: 5 draft day trades New Orleans Pelicans should make
Can the Pelicans pull off a draft day trade for an NBA ready player?
The Pelicans are in an interesting place. They have Anthony Davis, which gives them the potential to have a huge advantage over most of the league. With that however, they have struggled to build any form of a team around them.
They have given poor contracts and made poor trades, and seemingly nothing has gone right for them. They now sit with the number six pick in the draft. They also have some players, Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans with name appeal, but an expiring contract. It gives them flexibility to move some of these names around, and potentially package it with this high pick to re-build this roster.
They know this is a draft that they cannot screw up. Davis just now is entering his prime, and who knows when they will be this high in the lottery again. The way this draft seems to be breaking down is that their is a top tier of Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram, then a group of interchangeable players from three through eight.
On draft day there will be opportunities where a team sees their third ranked player fall to six and is looking to jump up. At the same time, there is the chance that the Pelicans top two targets at pick are gone by pick five. It increases the chance that they would be interested to make a trade in either scenario.
Desperation can play a factor, and it can affect how much each side throws in to sweeten a deal, but there will trades out there for the Pelicans to make.
That said, here are the five trades the New Orleans Pelicans should make on draft day
