The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired Anaheim Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen in exchange for picks.

On Monday, the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired goaltender Fredrerik Andersen form the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for picks.

As reported by TSN, the Leafs give up the 30th overall selection in the upcoming NHL draft and a second round pick in the 2017 draft. Toronto received the 30th pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of the Phil Kessel trade last year.

Andersen posted a 22-9-7 record with a 2.30 goals-against-average and .919 save percentage. He split the starting job in Anaheim with John Gibson. With the NHL officially expanding to Las Vegas, an expansion draft is coming and teams can only protect one goalie. By parting with Andersen now, the Ducks can protect Gibson without loosing either goalie for nothing.

For his career, Andersen holds a record of 77-26-12 record with a 2.33 GAA and .918 save percentage. He also has a post season record of 17-9-2 with a 2.34 GAA and .916 save percentage. During the 2014-2015 season, Andersen set an NHL record as the fastest goaltender to ever reach 26 wins, start the season 26-5-0. He also tied the record for fastest to 50 wins (50-13-5), sharing the record with Montreal’s Bill Durnan who set the record in 1944. He has spent his entire career in Anaheim since being drafted by the team 87th overall in the 2012 draft.

The Leafs were quick to lock Andersen in to a long-term deal. ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun reported that the Leafs had signed Andersen to a five-year contract extension, he would have been a RFA come July 1. TSN’s Bob McKenzie is reporting that Anderson will make somewhere between $5-5.5 million under the new deal.
