WWE Rumors: Roman Reigns lost WWE title for not drawing well at live events
By Jack Crosby
Roman Reigns shockingly saw his WWE World Heavyweight Championship reign end on Sunday night, and this might be why
WWE Money in the Bank on Sunday night brought us all a lot of surprises, and one of the shockers of the evening was Roman Reigns not only losing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but losing it cleanly to Seth Rollins. A short time later, Rollins would lose the belt via cash-in from Dean Ambrose, but still, it was pretty stunning to see the new top guy initially drop the belt clean.
So since then, a lot of people have been asking why exactly that took place. Having so much invested in the new top guy, why would Vince McMahon and company just snatch it away from him before the summer season officially even hits?
Well, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, apparently the champ has not been drawing all that well as the top guy on the ‘A’ house shows, while at the same time, Ambrose has been doing just as well as the headliner for the ‘B’ shows.
"“Last month the ‘B’ shows with Dean Ambrose, that were often in smaller markets, were drawing just as well as the ‘A’ shows with Roman Reigns. Roman Reigns is drawing really bad. Before he wasn’t, but now he is, so now it’s an issue. Does that mean that it led to [the title change], or is this just another way to get Roman Reigns more over, because that’s been the goal for the last however long? Time will tell.”"
So for the most part, you can maybe even say that this is a trial run for Ambrose to see if he could provide a boost in attendance for the ‘A’ shows as the man with the top belt in the company. Or, maybe Meltzer is right in saying that this is all just yet again another way to try and get sympathy on Reigns, the man they see as the heir apparent to John Cena.
Or, you know, they could just finally go full-fledged heel with Reigns and see if they can draw money by people wanting to go to these shows to see him get his a** kicked. Just a thought.
