D’Angelo Russell has advice for Ben Simmons
On Thursday night, Ben Simmons will likely become the number one overall pick in the NBA Draft and officially become a professional basketball player after years of working hard to reach that goal. It seems likely that Simmons would go to young NBA players for advice, which meant the premise of the newest Foot Locker commercial where he meets with and gets advice from Karl-Anthony Towns, Devin Booker and D’Angelo Russell was a great one.
Then D’Angelo Russell did a thing that absolutely made the commercial an instant classic.
That is just great. Obviously the outcome of the situation with Russell and his Los Angeles Lakers

teammate Nick Young is not great but Russell just plays this part perfectly to get a great moment. Arguing whether or not Russell was in the right is pointless, but not having a phone is helpful in a bunch more ways than just not videotaping your teammate. Simmons is likely to have a ton of people he hasn’t talked to in years, calling him and asking him for money and tickets and other random gifts, so getting rid of his phone completely is a great idea.
But for anyone who follows the NBA close enough the point of Russell throwing the phone into the ocean is clear. And pretty hysterical. Once again, Foot Locker knocks an NBA ad completely out of the park.
