Jeanie Buss is shooting down the talk that Phil Jackson might be interested in returning to the Lakers

Phil Jackson’s short tenure with the New York Knicks has not gone as swimmingly as a lot of people thought it would thus far, which has led to some whispers. More specifically, it has led to whispers that Jackson might be looking to make a return to a familiar place — the Los Angeles Lakers.

Although he has a five-year contract with the Knicks, it has been rumored that he’d be looking for a way out of that deal so he can go back to the Lakers and help girlfriend Jeanie Buss, part owner of the team, run the organization.

Well, Ms. Buss has some thoughts on a potential return for Jackson.

Speaking to Sports Business Daily, Jeanie Buss admitted that she herself doesn’t see Jackson heading back to Los Angeles anytime soon.

"People think that Phil is going to come back here to L.A. and it’s not true. He’s signed a five-year agreement. He is happy where he is.What I am getting from people in New York is that he’s just doing it for the money. Phil doesn’t do anything for the money. He’s completely devoted to this job.For him it really satisfies the full circle of his basketball career — starting as a Knicks player and now going back to New York."

Well, if anyone would know, it’d be Buss.

Still, though, while a return to the Lakers might not be in the cards at the moment, it’ll be interesting to see if talks of a Los Angeles return heat up even more if the Knicks have another down year.
