Roman Reigns was suspended on Tuesday for a WWE Wellness Policy violation, and some of you might be wondering what exactly that is
Tuesday afternoon, WWE dropped a bombshell on everyone. Two days after he lost the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, the company announced that Roman Reigns has been suspended for 30 days following his first violation of the Wellness Policy.
“Wellness Policy” are two words that you may have seen from time to time when it comes the world of WWE. People have been suspended for violating it before, but it resonates a little more when one of the top guys in the company suffer the consequences, like Reigns.
So what exactly is the WWE Wellness Policy?
Professional wrestling has long been known for its history of drug issues, so back in 2006, WWE implemented the Wellness Policy to show everyone that they were heading towards a zero tolerance policy when it came to these matters. While not exactly zero tolerance,
Independent physicians will regularly test the talent for banned substances on their list, and if they test positive, the punishments will be handed out. Generally, it’s 30 days for a first violation, 60 days for a second and on the third, your contract with the company is terminated. Of course, though, that’s just the general rule of thumb. In reality, Vince McMahon can punish the talent however he so chooses if the violation is bad enough.
