Do shave.

This one is key. There is nothing worse than a nineteen-year-old in a $25,000 outfit that can’t even sign up for the Dollar Shave Club. And the facial hair of late-stage teens, like NBA rookies, can include some rough patches. Unibrows should be broken up. Under beards need to be reigned in, and the minuscule mustaches that some rookies try out (Adam Morrison, please) need to be wiped off. Nineteen is almost always too young to pull off the James Harden full beard and unless you won 73 games in the 2015-16 regular season, you can’t get away with the Golden State goatee.

In my book there are only three passable facial hair styles that the rookies can try out:

  1. Short Stubble. This is pretty simple, just don’t shave for a few days before the draft and trim any patches or edges on the day of the draft. Drake and DJ Khaled both make this look easy, but it must be noted if you have the facial hair coverage of Joakim Noah, avoid the stubble look.
  2. The Chin Beard. This one is for those that want to try and have a beard but can’t quite fill one out. Just grow a smaller beard under the chin and keep the rest at a short stubble. It’s not too bad of a look, but should be kept to medium-short length.
  3. Clean Shaven. Highly recommended.
