4. Trade into top three

This would be a tougher scenario to pull off, because most teams in the top five will only be listening if DeMarcus Cousins is on the table. Still, if Cousins is on the table, the Lakers at pick two and the Celtics at three would be listening.

This scenario works for the Kings because they should not lose their number eight pick over it. They should be able to add Cousins, potentially another pick and this draft, but at least another piece or two for the second or third pick.

Questions have been asked as to whether the Kings would take D’Angelo Russell and the second pick for DeMarcus Cousins, and it is definitely something they would have to consider.

If they were able to walk away from this draft with D’Angelo Russell, Brandon Ingram, and Marquese Chriss it would be a huge spark of youth to a team that really needs it. It would give them the incentive to blow things up with the exception of Willie Cauley-Stein, and players like Marco Belinelli and Rudy Gay could be able to recover more assets.

The Kings would not be contenders next year but they would be back on the map. They would be looked at as in a similar place to the Minnesota Timberwolves of the past year, and that is where you would like to be as a young team.
