2. The Knicks easily got the best player

In any trade, the big question is who got the better deal. On paper, the Knicks/Bulls deal looks like a win-win for both teams. The Bulls were trying to unload Rose, as they build around Jimmy Butler, and the Knicks needed to upgrade their backcourt.

However, the bottom line is Derrick Rose is the best player in this trade, and the Knicks will be a much better team because of the trade than the Bulls will be. It is never easy to let a good big man go, and Robin Lopez is a solid player. But the Knicks won only 32 games with him last season, and their need for backcourt help far outweighs their need to keep Lopez.

Heading into another season with Jose Calderon at the point guard position was not something any Knicks fan wanted to see. With a new Head Coach in town, the Knicks needed to get a point guard who can run the show, and Rose is that guy.

There is not telling how good Jerian Grant will be, and Calderon is definitely at the tail end of his career. With Rose, the Knicks are getting a player who can score 15-20 points a night, and a third scorer is just what the Knicks needed.

Rose is the best player in this trade, and the Knicks are instantly improved because of him.
