The Knicks are getting closer to that totally Knicks core of Carmelo Anthony-Derrick Rose-Dwight Howard.
It’s hard to be a New York Knicks fan and take anything that happens to the team with anything other than a grain of salt. Wednesday might have been the Knicks-iest day in the modern history of the franchise as they made all of the moves that would have been excited six years ago.
While the Derrick Rose trade dominated the headlines, it was preceded by a report that was in it’s own right a Knicks-y move that is made even more Knicks-y with the Rose trade.
According to Ian Begly from ESPN, the Knicks are a target for Howard — which makes so much more sense now that they’ve acquired Derrick Rose. Keep in mind, this is Howard saying he wants New York’s money, not New York saying they’re going to give it to him.
This report came out prior to the Rose trade, but now it’s almost impossible to not associate the two directly. New York traded away Robin Lopez — his starting spot and the money tied to him — and now have room and space to sign Howard.
Already the team looked like they could be a landing spot for Howard but they’re even more appealing now. That doesn’t mean it will happen, but that Melo-Rose-Howard core with Porzingis splashed in for good measure might be so maniacally crazy it could end up working.
Just kidding, these are the Knicks so of course it won’t work.
