When will Tiger Woods return to golf?
By Kyle Tomasi
When can golf fans expect to see the former No. 1 golfer in the world, Tiger Woods, back on the links? Could he return for the Open Championship?
Golf fans near and far have all been awaiting Tiger Woods’ return whether its to see him stumble on a national stage again or compete for yet another major championship.
Tiger has been recovering from his 2008 ACL injury that required surgery and he just hasn’t gotten back into the swing of things since. Back injuries have nagged at Woods’ recovery since his major surgery. His body seems to constantly be breaking and hasn’t played in a competitive match in more than 10 months at the Wyndham Championship in August.
According to Woods, he has played a full round on consecutive days which is progress since May of this year. He said he needs to be able to play 36 holes on a daily basis before he even considers re-entering the tour and his main focus is continuing to rehab the correct way.
Probably a good call.
He spoke earlier today at the Quicken Loans National, which benefits his foundation, and he said he’s still just not quite at that point where he feels comfortable playing a full round.
"“I’m still progressing, I’m still getting stronger,” Woods said, via PGATour.com. “I’m excited about what has transpired so far. Getting leaner. I’ve lost some body fat but I kept the weight up, which is nice. I’ve gotten stronger and it’s just recovering from day to day.”“I’m just playing it week-to-week. I keep getting better, keep getting physically better. I just hope that everything clicks in and I can do it sooner than later.”"
Woods will have a lot of catching-up to do if he does make a return due to the likes of youngsters like Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, and current U.S. Open Champion Dustin Johnson. Not saying he can’t make a comeback, but he’s got a daunting task to make it to the top again.
Before his injuries, Woods had his chances to catch if not surpass the Golden Bear himself, Jack Nicklaus. Now, those hopes have forever vanished and golf may never see a prodigy like Woods again.
There are nine regular-season events remaining this season that Woods can play in.
Only time will tell and only a miracle will be able to save Woods at this point of his career.
