Jakob Poeltl will be the first and only traditional big man selected in the draft lottery — unless a team goes wild on Zizic or Zubac. The 7-1, 20-year old center looks to be everything a team would want in a big man, and possibly more. The Milwaukee Bucks appear to be on the cusp of turning the corner into playoff relatively in the Eastern Conference and adding a big who can protect the rim, and run the floor is ideal for their progression. Yes, the have Greg Monroe right now, but what Monroe lacks on the defensive end, Poeltl can bring from day one.

The Austrian 7-footer averaged 17.3 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks for Utah last season whilst showing off an array of post moves, versatility in transition and the ability to bang down low with any foe. Unfortunately, he’s a bit inept with jump shot consistency at the point in his career, but his mechanics are pretty good so he could certainly extend that range as his career develops.

Right now, his strength is providing a quality post-presence on offense and defense, and his soft touch on the offensive end allows him to finish with either hand as well. He’s not going to lead the league in shot blocking, but he already provides more rim protection than most bigs on the Bucks’ roster at the current time. Poeltl should be able to step into the 2016-17 rotation immediately for the Bucks, or any other team who takes him.
