Carmelo Anthony to play in 2016 Rio Olympics
New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony will play in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
There has been plenty of talk about the top United States stars staying home from the Olympics this summer, whether it be because of injury or fear of the Zika Virus.
Apparently, Carmelo Anthony is not going to be held back by either. According to The Vertical, Anthony will be participating in the Olympic Games once more, likely getting his last shot at the competition signified by five rings.
Anthony will have plenty of help on the team, with guys like Kyle Lowry, Kevin Durant and Paul George also declaring that they will play. However, the team will be without Steph Curry (claiming injury) and LeBron James (not 100 percent, but leaning toward some rest).
Nobody can blame James for simply taking a summer to relax. The NBA offseason is laughably short to begin with and James has played in the last six NBA Finals. At some point, the man simply needs to put his feet up.
Luckily for Anthony, he does not have that problem. He plays for the Knicks which means that important basketball stops being played around Christmas, if it even gets that far.
