Dallas Mavericks: Jason Kidd, No. 2, 1994 NBA Draft
Jason Kidd was the second overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks, behind Glenn Robinson and ahead of Grant Hill. The Mavericks won 23 more games with Kidd running the point for them, and Kidd shared the Rookie of the Year award with Grant Hill. Kidd earned a spot on the All-Star team his second season, but disagreements with the coaching staff lead to a trade in 1996 to the Phoenix Suns. He would go on to considerable success elsewhere, playing in Phoenix for five seasons and with the New Jersey Nets for seven (including an NBA Finals appearance) before the Mavericks reacquired Kidd via trade.
With steady shooting, playmaking, and physical defense. The veteran guard helped the team reach the playoffs, and they were able to defeat LeBron James and the Miami Heat in the 2011 Finals for his first and only championship. One of the most electric transition passers in history, Kidd was famous for snaring a defensive rebound and pushing the fastbreak himself. While Kidd had a spectacular career away from Dallas, it was fitting that he won a championship with the team that originally drafted him.
