The Phoenix Suns are in an interesting spot with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft on Thursday night. They have plenty of needs on their roster and after a 23-win campaign, would probably be best served taking one of the top talents on the board.
They’re also in a position where they could leverage their pick for someone else that could be looking to trade up and potentially get more assets and an established player on their roster as well.
That could be the case. According to The Arizona Republic‘s Paul Coro, the Suns are fielding offers for the No. 4 pick from teams that want point guard Kris Dunn.
"The Suns are spending part of their draft day exploring what teams might be interested in securing Providence point guard Kris Dunn by making a trade for the Suns’ No. 4 pick, azcentral sports has learned. If Boston passes on Dunn to select one of the draft’s other top guards, Kentucky’s Jamal Murray or Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield, or Croatia’s Dragan Bender, there could be a growing trade market Thursday evening for the Suns at No. 4 if a team desires Dunn.League sources also said that the Suns have been open to trading guard Brandon Knight."
There are a couple of interesting points in there for Coro. Namely that it’s going to take Boston passing on Dunn and another team not trading up with the Celtics for the Suns to be in a position of leverage.
Also interesting of note is that the Suns are open to trading Brandon Knight. With Eric Bledsoe due back from injury and Devin Booker turning into a good player in the league, there just isn’t a need for Knight on the roster anymore.
If the Suns get to their pick and Dunn is still available, they could be swinging a deal.
