New York Knicks – Bright lights, big city

Somebody has to sign with the Knicks eventually… right?

Every year, at least one major NBA free agent hits the market and, on cue, New York is mentioned as a destination for his services. The most famous case is with LeBron James in 2010, as the Knicks were said to be firmly in the running prior to his choice to head to Miami, but because of the bright lights of the Big Apple, the Knicks will always gain a seat at the table.

Kevin Durant does not strike me as a player who would gravitate toward New York over other situations, simply because he wants to win and win big. The Knicks do have some nice assets, headlined by Kristaps Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony, and it would be a highly impressive frontcourt if Durant elected to sign with New York. At the same time, that probably isn’t the NBA title favorite without additional moves, and there are better places from a basketball standpoint in the Eastern Conference.

Phil Jackson is a big name and he has enjoyed success with elite-level stars in the past. However, New York’s massive market has become pretty overrated when it comes to NBA stardom and when virtually every team has salary cap space, Durant’s choices are wide open.
