Orlando Magic – No state tax

Congratulations, Kevin Durant. You get to keep more of your money!

For the record, this premise is very tongue in cheek, but the Orlando Magic do not have the obvious claim on a reason for Durant to consider heading to central Florida. The Magic do have a boatload of young assets, most famously in the form of Aaron Gordon and Victor Oladipo, but no one on the current roster boasts superstar upside and this has been a bad basketball team for a few seasons now.

The arrival of Durant would obviously change that in a hurry, but when surveying the scene, there are multiple Eastern Conference destinations that would be better suited than Orlando. The Magic do have more cap room than most, paving the way to potentially add a second useful piece, but this is an organization that has some work to do on a grand scale.

Kevin Durant would be taking a “pay cut” relative to Oklahoma City by going anywhere else, and that has to be mentioned. In Orlando, he would take home more capital, and that just might matter.

If we’re honest, though, it probably will not for a player set to make more than $100 million on his next contract.
