One reason Kevin Durant should consider every NBA team

Washington Wizards – Going home

It is at least somewhat fitting that the Washington Wizards land at the bottom of the NBA’s alphabet, meaning they arrive last in this space. There has been buzz about Kevin Durant returning “home” to the nation’s capital for a long time, and while that began to evaporate over the course of the 2015-2016 season, the Wizards should not be ruled out entirely.

As we have seen with LeBron James in bringing a title to Cleveland, there is a special appeal for some athletes to their hometown. Durant has not been nearly as vocal about D.C. as James was about Northeast Ohio, but it isn’t as if Washington is totally void of assets, and the combination could be enticing.

Durant would move from playing with one elite athlete at point guard (Russell Westbrook) to another in John Wall. Wall is a better passer than Westbrook and, at least in theory, might be an even better fit given that and his defensive acumen. Also, Washington has young assets in Bradley Beal and Otto Porter with a few quality veterans sprinkled in, and Durant would bring immediate credibility to Washington as an Eastern Conference contender.

I don’t think we will be getting the Kevin Durant “I’m coming home” narrative in the coming days, but the door is cracked open.
