Despite the threat of the scary Zika virus down in South America, the United States was still able to put together an Olympic roster for Team USA certainly capable of being the overwhelming favorite to win Olympic gold.
Popular American players like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, and Chris Paul decided not to represent their country in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Nevertheless, Team USA has a balanced and dangerously deep roster.
Two player to keep an eye on are small forward Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks and center DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings. Anthony has the chance to be the first male in Team USA history two win three gold medals (2008, 2012, and hopefully 2016). Anthony is usually an outstanding two-way player in Olympic play.
Cousins may be one of the most frustrated superstars in the NBA today. His NBA team in the Kings are constantly in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. It would be fantastic to see him play with great teammates on Team USA and have some fun on the court for once.
