The Copa America Centenario has been a whirlwind, and it comes to an end with the exact same matchup as last year — Argentina vs. Chile.
Chile prevailed in penalties after 120 minutes of scoreless action, but there’s a lot to suggest this year’s final will be different. For one, Chile won’t get to enjoy home advantage. If anything, the crowd will be favoring Argentina, since the masses will come to see Lionel Messi. And Argentina already beat Chile 2-1 in the group stage, and that was without Messi.

However, Chile have improved a lot since that game, and boast the tournament’s top scorer in Eduardo Vargas. He’s relatively unknown at the club level, but on the international stage, he shines. He has 31 goals in 58 caps, and he was the catalyst in Chile’s 7-0 beatdown of Mexico when he put in a four-goal performance. As crazy as it might have sounded at the start of the tournament, Vargas vs. Messi will be the match-up that decides this final.
