5. Steve Ballmer

One of the interesting parts of Durant’s free agency is that he might be looking for a place that can help him generate wealth beyond his playing career. Though he had a great 2015-16 NBA campaign with the Thunder, he did miss three-quarters of the 2014-15 NBA season with a litany of foot injuries.

Knowing that Durant is in the prime of his money making days and may run into health issues later down the road, he has said through his agents that one of the reasons he is seriously considering joining the Warriors is with all the tech industry opportunities that surrounding Silicon Valley could provide him with post-playing career.

Well, Durant doesn’t have to live in the most expensive part of the country just to chase rings and tech opportunities. He can do both plus making living in Los Angeles full-time, as new Clippers owner Steve Ballmer is the former CEO of a little computer company in Seattle called … Microsoft!

Don’t think for a second that Ballmer isn’t well connected with the tech world now that he’s owning an exciting NBA team in a major market worth well over $2 billion. If Durant signs with Ballmer’s Clippers, there is a possibility of a high upside in pay far beyond his career on the hardwood.
