2. Killing the Clippers Curse is great for his brand

While winning an NBA Championship in Oklahoma City is the best thing for Durant’s legacy as an all-time great player, wouldn’t helping a formerly snakebitten franchise like the Clippers win their first title be good for his brand, too?

From their days as the Buffalo Braves to the forgettable years as the San Diego Clippers, Los Angeles has done a whole bunch of losing in its 40+ year existence as an NBA franchise. With the Paul trade with the then New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles is now in its glory years as a franchise, despite never getting past the second round at any point in the deep Western Conference.

Now that the Cavaliers have brought a championship to Northeast Ohio, does that mean the Clippers are the most championship starved team in the NBA? Arguably, yes. By joining the Clippers, Durant would have the opportunity to win an championship for what was a perennial doormat much like James did in Cleveland.

Los Angeles is a better run organization than what James has to navigate in Cleveland. With a top five head coach in Rivers and an excited new owner in Ballmer, Durant could be the guy that helps the Clippers get over the top and end the so-called Clippers Curse by winning an NBA title.
