Graziano Pelle goal sends Italy over Spain in Round of 16 (Video)
Graziano Pelle scored the second goal for Italy in the 91st minute to push them past Spain in the 2016 Euros Round of 16
Italy came into the 2016 Euros knowing that they’d have at least one distinct advantage against the rest of their competition. Despite a squad that many considered lackluster coming to France for the tournament, Antonio Conte managing the squad seemed like it could prove huge for them. Against Spain in the Round of 16 on Monday, having a world-class manager at the helm proved to make all of the difference and Graziano Pelle hit that point home with an exclamation.
Despite having been on the attack time and again int he match against Spain, Italy had only managed one goal thanks to the efforts of David de Gea. Moreover, Gianluigi Buffon had to make an unreal save in the 89th minute to keep that 1-0 lead in-tact. However, Pelle got loose just a minute or two later at the start of added time when Spain poorly defended a long cross and then a run into the middle of the box. The forward then finished it past de Gea to secure the victory:
When you look at the talent discrepancy, this is truly an unreal result for Pelle to secure with that goal. However, Conte has been that brilliant on the sideline and his side have fully bought in to what he’s selling.
The Italians now have a date with Germany in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Euros, a match that could be every bit as exciting as this one was on Monday. All that remains to be seen is if Conte and Italy have any more of a run left in them.
