Reykjavik went bonkers over Iceland’s second goal vs England (Video)
Fans watching in Reykjavik went absolutely wild on Monday when Iceland scored their second goal to take the lead vs England in the 2016 Euros Round of 16
Iceland came into their Round of 16 matchup with England in the 2016 Euros as the underdogs in virtually every regard imaginable. Not only were the side not nearly as talented throughout the squad as the highly recognizable English side, but Iceland also can’t boast the soccer history or even simply the breadth of the fan-base that England have. However, that didn’t affect the play of Iceland in the first half. Moreover, the size of the fan-base in numbers doesn’t measure the passion—but how the Iceland fans have reacted sure does gauge that.
England scored first against England to go up 1-0 on a Wayne Rooney penalty, but Iceland quickly answered with a goal from Ragnar Sigurdsson. However, it was not long after when Kolbeinn Sightorsson got free and snuck one past Joe Hart to go up 2-1. With Iceland taking the lead, the huge group gathered in Reykjavik, Iceland to watch the game lost their mind and went bonkers at the sight:
Now that’s what you call real passion from a group of fans. They don’t just pop and get loud initially—those fans in Reykjavik are loud for the length of that entire video.
Even the most ardent English supporters have to have some sort of soft spot for Iceland at this point. They’re one of the best stories that we’ve seen in soccer and in sports in quite some time. And in a year that’s been big for soccer underdogs (hey, Leicester City), why not Iceland?
