The Nashville Predators have locked up wing Filip Forsberg for the next six years, signing the restricted free agent forward to a deal worth $36 million.

The Nashville Predators’ number one priority this offseason was to sign star forward Filip Forsberg to a long-term deal. They have delivered, signing Forsberg to a six-year deal worth $36 million. Forsberg is an extremely important part of this franchise, and signing him not only sets the Predators’ budget for the next six seasons, it ensures they will get their star player for the majority of his prime years.

“Filip is among the most skilled, dynamic talents we’ve ever had in the organization and is an integral part of our success for the next six years and beyond,” Predators general manager David Poile said, via NHL.com. “We have full confidence that he will continue to blossom into one of the top players in the world.”

Forsberg is coming off a career season that saw him score 33 goals and 64 points, team highs in both categories. He also led the team in goals and points during his rookie season in 2014-15. His 64 points and 33 goals were both career highs for the 21-year-old forward.

Nashville acquired Forsberg at the 2014 NHL trade deadline from the Washington Capitals in exchange for forwards Martin Erat and Michael Latta. Forsberg was drafted by the Capitals with the 11th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft.

This is an incredible bargain for the Predators considering the money similar players have received recently.
