The wildest free agency period is set to begin in the NBA this week and teams are going to throw around money like they have never done before. With a $24 million increase in the salary cap, the NBA is about to have its landscape changed forever.
While everyone is talking about the free agents that could find new homes, there is also restricted free agency and that is going to be just as vital to the market as unrestricted free agents are to the market.
Restricted free agents are free agents are players that are not quite able to be eligible to sign anywhere they please just yet. Their current team has a chance to match any offer that is made to that particular player.
However, as soon as a team signs that player, the existing team has three days to sign them. Unlike other leagues, the team that does sign a restricted free agent, which is hard to do, does not have to give up a draft pick or compensation.
