AL MVP

1. player. 102.
Water is wet. Grass is green. Mike Trout is the best player in baseball.

Despite the fact that he is just 24 years old, some seemed determined to move on from Trout as the class of MLB prior to this season, but the multi-talented outfielder has proven his worth yet again. At this moment, Trout leads all MLB position players in fWAR (4.6) and bWAR (4.5) while trailing only Clayton Kershaw overall in each category. His numbers absolutely jump off the page, including 17 home runs, 10 stolen bases and a 167 wRC+, but Trout’s best attribute is that he has no weaknesses. We can talk about other stars in baseball, but no one has come close to usurping Trout at the top of the list.
. OF. Los Angeles Angels. Mike Trout

135.
Jose Altuve is a legitimate superstar. The size-challenged second baseman continues to defy all sorts of logic with his play, but Altuve trails only Trout in WAR this season while leading the league in batting average (.348) and landing second in the AL in on-base percentage (.425). Surprisingly, Altuve is really hitting for power as well, blasting 13 home runs with a .560 slugging percentage, and that helps his overall value immensely. Throw in the speed (18 stolen bases) and quality defense this season and you have the MVP runner-up.
. 2B. Houston Astros. Jose Altuve. 2. player

If Machado was running, he might be in the number two spot. It seems bizarre that the 23-year-old would go from 20 stolen bases in 2015 to zero (!) in 2016, but that is what has transpired for Machado. His overall contributions are above reproach, though, as he brings elite defense to the table to go along with 18 home runs and a .609 slugging percentage in 318 plate appearances. David Ortiz, who has been phenomenal this season, has been better offensively than Machado, but if you factor in defense, the gap evaporates and then some.
. 3B. Baltimore Orioles. Manny Machado. 3. player. 11
