MLB DFS: Finding the Stud and Steal of the Day for your DFS lineup!

Looking at tonight’s slate of ten baseball games, it can be daunting to decide who deserves a place in your MLB DFS lineup. Knowing which star player is worth the money can be the difference between a winning night and one that ends in failure. However, finding the hidden gems that perform well are equally as important because they can let you spend more on your starting pitchers. This article will touch on one expensive player who is primed to have a big night, and one cheap player whom you wouldn’t normally play but is a great play tonight.

With the success of Mike Trout and to a lesser extent Colby Rasmus last night, I look forward to matching their performance tonight with my picks. Tonight’s huge 15 game slate gives a lot of possibilities for stars and steals and here in this article we’ll be looking at one of each.

Next: Stud of the Day

The Stud of the Day:

With Eddie Butler pitching today for the Rockies, one name stands out above all others and that name is Josh Donaldson ($5,600 on Draftkings,$4,900 on Fanduel). Playing at Coors field gives a huge advantage to power hitters to begin with, and Eddie Butler has been having a horrific time getting outs at home. Right handed batters alone are hitting an absurd .418 against him and have scored 14 runs in only 11 innings.

While normally I would only recommend paying up for Donaldson when he faces a lefty, when you factor in how well Donaldson is hitting in June, (.366 batting average with 19 RBI’s in only 23 games,) it makes sense to use him especially at Coors Field. If you can cut costs at some other positions, I would highly recommend including a full Blue Jays stack tonight as home runs should be flying out of Coors tonight.

While I normally only do one stud of the day, I’d feel guilty if I also didn’t mention Giancarlo Stantonā€˜s name as he faces Mike Pelfrey. Stanton has crushed Pelfrey in his career, (9/19 with 2HR’s,) and Pelfrey is pitching even worse than he normally does this year. Right handed batters at home are hitting .356 vs Pelfrey and have hit 6 HR’s in only 16 innings. Get Donaldson and Stanton in your lineups!

Next: The Steal of the Day

The Steal of the Day:

Melky Cabrera is in a perfect spot to absolutely tear the cover off the ball tonight vs. Kyle Gibson and the Twins. This is one of those situations where the pitcher’s splits and the hitter’s splits perfectly line up in the hitters favor. You see, Kyle Gibson simply can’t get left handed batters out on the road this season. In 17 plate appearances against him, lefties are hitting Ā .571 and have accounted for 8 runs in only 2 innings.Ā

On the flip side, Cabrera has been crushing right handed pitchers at home to the clip of a .345 average with 5HR’s and 19 RBI’s. These numbers would cost you over $5,000 on draftkings if Melky hit righties and lefties the same, yet because he isn’t as good against right handers you can get him in your lineup for only $3,900. On Fanduel they are practically giving Cabrera away as he comes in at only $3,000, regardless of which site you play on tonight make sure Melky Cabrera is in your lineup !
