NFL Rumors: Seahawks sign Doug Baldwin to contract extension
The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed their top wide receiver in Doug Baldwin for the next few years.
Doug Baldwin has emerged to become the top receiver for the Seattle Seahawks over the past five seasons. The Seahawks signed him as an undrafted free agent following the 2011 NFL Draft. Baldwin has racked up over 3,800 yards and 29 touchdowns during this time, including his first 1,000-yard season in 2015 and has also been on two teams that made the Super Bowl.
Well, it looks like the Seahawks are going to keep their stud wide receiver for the next few seasons, as ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that Baldwin re-signed through 2020.
Mike Garofolo of FS1 also noted that Baldwin will receive around $11.5 million per year.
This locks in Baldwin as Seattle’s top wideout for the next few years, which will take him into his age 31 season. He’ll continue to catch passes for the Seahawks with the likes of Jermaine Kearse, Paul Richardson, and Jimmy Graham.
As for 2016 stats, it’s possible Doug Baldwin could continue to accumulate more targets. With star running back Marshawn Lynch retired, it’s possible Seattle opens up the passing a little more. This could lead to the Stanford alumnus topping his 2015 numbers and while continuing his legacy in Seattle. Graham being healthy could also open things up for Baldwin too, which would make for a potentially dangerous offense.
