It doesn’t make sense why the Houston Rockets don’t value starting point guard Patrick Beverley as much as they should. He’s a great starting back court compliment to star shooting guard James Harden. Beverley plays real defense and can be a productive offensive player without the ball in his hands, perfect for ball-dominant go-to scorer Harden.

Even with veteran leader Jason Terry on the roster, the Rockets looked to get a sixth man type of player that happens to play point guard in Ty Lawson last summer. That free agent signing blew up catastrophically for Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, as Lawson finished the year with the Pacers.

If Lin were to sign with Houston, it would be more than one sort of homecoming for the veteran point guard. Lin was the starting Rockets point guard in 2012-13, but was largely ineffective, replaced by Beverley, and then traded to the Lakers.

Lin also would be playing for a former head coach of his in Mike D’Antoni. D’Antoni was the head coach of the Knicks during Linsanity and might want to mark part two of that basketball phenomenon come to life in Houston in 2016-17. How will Harden handle not being the certain of attention if the basketball chemistry between D’Antoni and Lin is undeniable. Houston’s locker room could be even more toxic than it was last season if Lin plays well and Harden isn’t cool with that.
