Andrew Luck, Colts agree on five-year extension
After signing a five-year extension with the Indianapolis Colts, Andrew Luck reportedly becomes the NFL’s highest paid player.
On Wednesday afternoon, Indianapolis Colts fans got some quality news as they were informed their All-Pro caliber quarterback Andrew Luck signed a five-year extension through 2021 and will reportedly become the league’s highest-paid player, passing Joe Flacco.
Mixed reviews surfaced from opposing fans, calling Luck overrated and overpaid and claiming he has a difficult time staying healthy. This stems from the nine games he missed in 2015 due to injury and he didn’t look like the same guy when he did play.
Luck passed for just 1,881 yards, 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in those seven games, but he will look to be fully healthy for the start of 2016. This contract extension is something owner Jim Irsay has wanted to get done before the fall and the deal was evidence of that as he paid the 26-year-old gunslinger handsomely.
That would give him an average of $25 million over his first three years, almost an entire $3 million per year more than the league’s previous high.
In the three season before 2015, however, Luck had been proving his worth with the organization, passing for nearly 13,000 yards and 83 touchdowns. He is considered one of the league’s bright young stars and he helped ease the pain of letting Peyton Manning go before the 2012 campaign.
Do you think he’s worth $25 million per year or do you believe he needs one more year to prove that?
