The Los Angeles Clippers are already botching their attempt at landing Kevin Durant before they even get a meeting with him. Set to be one of the lucky teams that have a shot at landing Durant, the Clippers don’t really feel like making the necessary cap room to meet with Durant.

According to Dan Woike of The Orange County Register, the Clippers are going to pitch Durant on taking a pay cut so that he can play with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.

"While all options will be discussed, the Clippers are expected to a highlight a scenario in which Durant would sign a deal to play alongside Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin. To make the most competitive offer possible, the Clippers would have to trade J.J. Redick, Paul Pierce and C.J. Wilcox and renounce the rights to first-round pick Brice Johnson and all of their own free agents. The Clippers could also discuss scenarios in which they trade one member of their “Big Three,” either to a team with cap space or to the Thunder in a sign-and-trade."

The Clippers’ first plan seems like the dumbest thing a team could pitch a top free agent on. The salary cap can’t fit the four of them together on max deals, which is working against the Clippers’ idea.

Now, it sounds like if they could land Durant, but only on a max deal, then they would be open to moving one of their big three players in a deal. That’s the more likely scenario, but telling Durant in his free agency to take a pay cut seems ridiculous to say the least.

Then again, there’s going to be enough ridiculous things happening during this salary cap spike to keep everyone content about what is going on in the NBA.
